Often people will summon up the motivation to change their lives, lose the weight, get fit & healthy or finally create that athletic physique they've dreamed of and set about it with the best of intentions. Only to stall after not getting the results they expected because they've chosen the wrong type of training for them, gotten injured or simply aren't performing exercises right. Hiring a coach is a fail safe way to ensure you reach your goals as efficiently as possible and keep them forever...
Just turning up to the gym and lifting some weights is almost always going to be beneficial. However with guidance and programming from a good coach you will not only reach your goals faster but they will be significantly greater than if you went about it alone. Personal training makes sure you get payback from every minute spent in the gym and prevent you from working yourself too hard which hampers recovery and inhibits your goals. This is much more easily done than you think.
Everyone has their own goals and everyone is starting at a different level. Beginning your fitness journey at the right place based on your current ability and creating a program to do exactly what you want can be difficult to get right and is crucial to make sure you actually make progress. A personal trainer will make sure you're working hard enough whatever your skill level to elicit the adaptation you're after but not so hard that you can't walk and won't recover.
Not only will a good coach design a program of exercise specifically for you and your goals based on what you can handle, teach you the proper skill techniques and implement progression, they will also advise on other aspects of life to support your journey. Nutritional principles to live by, stress management and life hacks which when added to a solid training program will make your results much quicker and easier to achieve and help you keep them when we're done.
Some people just don't enjoy the gym environment, or hate the idea of performing rep after rep of the same few exercises in a static situation, understandabl7 so. The truth is though resistance training, actual resistance training, is vital for short and long term health, especially for women. PT's are often great at adapting training to be enjoyable for each individual and if you get a really good one, "hi!" you'll love spending an hour with them having a laugh while you get strong.
If you struggle to get yourself to the gym for this reason or that, pay a coach £40 per session to make life changing progress and I guarantee you'll be there on time every time. Especially when your coach is as funny as me! This has so many benefits beyond just being healthier and looking better. It helps you to be accountable in other aspects of your life, not only this, if you're putting in good work in the gym, you naturally have a tendency to make more positive choices in the rest of your life. Better food choices, getting off instagram, going for a walk etc etc...
When training yourself it is very easy to work either not hard enough to create the change you want, or worse, too hard. When you start out with all the motivation and good intentions it is all too easy to work yourself so hard that the next day your muscles are agony and your body doesn't recover for days. This is not the way to get stronger or healthier. An experienced coach will know how to work you just hard enough that your body adapts to what we're doing but not so hard that you can't get out of a chair for a week. The goldilocks zone is where we want to be.
Working out, especially strength training is a skill. People often take for granted that they can step into a gym and start performing exercises they see online right away. This can lead to imbalances and joint pain or even significant injuries and often puts a hard ceiling on any results you might get from your efforts. A coach will make sure you learn to perform movements optimally and safely maximising the effectiveness of them. These skills have enormous carry over into every day life, you'll be amazed how easy previously difficult things become.
Life is often tough, work, family, finances, pets, friends can all be stresses. Training is also a stress and if done wrong can be a detriment to the rest of your life, and the rest of your life can make it very difficult to do training right. The magic of a PT though is to create a training program that will achieve exactly what you want and implement it in a way that leaves you with more energy than you had before. Flipping the balance of your life from constantly struggling to find the energy, to having more in the tank to perform better in every aspect of life while getting healthier and stronger and looking your best.
